GET TO KNOW
Dr. Dena Marcus

Growing up on Long Island, New York, I often worked as a dental assistant for my dad, who was a general dentist. His plan for me to follow in his footsteps eventually worked, first I pursued my dream of a career as a photographer. I attended the School of Visual Arts and graduated with a B.F.A. in Photography in 1994. I specialized in documentary and portraiture. While freelancing for various magazines, I came to San Francisco on an assignment. I realized instantly that I belonged in Northern California and decided to move out to San Francisco. After working as a photographer and supplementing my income with temporary jobs, I landed a position at the University of California San Francisco Dental School. I ultimately decided it was time to return to school and become a dentist. I graduated in 2003 from the University of the Pacific Dental School (now known as Dugoni School of Dentistry).

In 2008 I took over for a retiring dentist Dr Chistopher Neal.  I enjoy practicing in Sonoma and in 2012 was able to expand and remodel the office.  I strive to provide my patients state of the art dental dental care in a comfortable environment.  The office has the latest technology including one day crowns and a cone beam ( three dimensional x-ray).

Sonoma is not only one of the most scenic locations with great access to the city, mountains and beach but it is a wonderful community.  Over the past 12 years my staff and patients have truly become like family.  The past couple of years this community has had to come together to deal with many challenges.  The fires, blackouts, and now Covid-19 has changed the way we live and work but has only made our community tighter.  As we all face these challenges together my commitment to creating a lifetime of oral health to my patients only deepens.

I live in Sebastopol with my husband, goats, donkeys, chickens, cats, sheep and a dog.  The office is also decorated with my animals.  When I’m not working I spend time gardening, hiking, swimming, and taking care of the animals.

Dr. Marcus Rice

As the son of a dental hygienist, I’ve spent a big portion of my life in a dental office. So it was only destiny that I would eventually become a dentist.

I’ve always been a California guy. I was born and raised in Concord, California. For undergrad, I moved to the Central Valley and attended UC Merced, where I fell in love with Yosemite and nature. For dental school, I lived in Southern California, where I attended Western University of Health Sciences. SoCal is also where I fell in love with In N Out burgers and hot chicken sandwiches. But, At the end of the day, my heart lives for Northern California so once I finished my schooling, I came back up. I love to hike and I love the outdoors, so I just know Sonoma County will treat me well.

When I’m not working in dentistry, I also love trying new foods so I’ll be sure to poke people’s brains on their local favorite places to eat. And when I’m not talking about stuffing my face, I’m always talking about the latest movie or TV show I recently watched. If you have any streaming recommendations, I’m always happy to watch it! I’m so excited to meet and work with all of my future patients and I look forward to learning more about each and every one of you.
